Shantel May Enlists Lola Brooke for New Song ‘Love It Here’

R&B

Toronto native Shantel May has teamed with New York rapper Lola Brooke for her new single “Love It Here.” It’s May’s first release since signing with MNRK Music Group.

“Love It Here,” produced by SK and K-Major, samples The Isley Brothers‘ classic “Footsteps in the Dark.” On the smooth track, May sings about a love interest who is completely smitten with her.

“Toxic tendencies, it’s complicated / Don’t get it twisted that’s my baby / Don’t think for once, I don’t cross his mind / That’s bad bitch magic, hard to breathe without it,” May sings.

Brooke appears later in the track, rapping, “It shouldn’t be that hard to keep them out of our business / And since you love it here so much, you should lick what’s in it.”

Speaking on “Love It Here,” May shares, “I immediately fell in love with the Isley sample and knew it would be dope. The topic was bang on for me at the time, so it was easy to connect/have fun with. I think the girls gon’ like this one.”

She continues, It feels familiar but also new, which is something I think I identify with a lot as an R&B artist, who mostly listens to throwbacks. This is my first female feature & Lola’s vibe fits perfectly.”

“Love It Here” is May’s first taste of new music since collaborating with Rory and RAAHiiM on 2022’s “Not Me.” In the same year, she released a solo track titled “Here.”

In 2021, May released her debut EP, Don’t Let Them See You Cry, which included a feature from rapper Westside Gunn.

May appeared on dvsn’s third album, A Muse in Her Feelings, on the closing track, “… Again.”
