Track Premiere: Lair of the Minotaur – ‘Dark Sorcery Beyond’

Metal

Doom and sludge purveyors Lair of the Minotaur have been peddling their dark brand of music for more than 20 years, with a few lineup changes along the way—OG drummer Larry Herweg (Pelican) left in 2006 and bassist DJ Barraca split in 2008. After 17 years, however, life brought the original trio back together to record two new songs and we’ve got one for you today.

“Dark Sorcery Beyond” is a mid-paced sludge tune, immediately locking into a hard groove and building on it from there. Vocalist/guitarist Steven Rathbone sounds vicious, delivering his lines in a menacing growl while the band chugs behind him. Recorded with the band’s longtime producer Sanford Parker and paired with a suitably dark music video, “Dark Sorcery Beyond” is a welcome return from Lair of the Minotaur’s classic lineup.

Check out the song and video below. If you dig what you hear, head to Lair of the Minotaur’s Bandcamp to cop the single.
