Hailing from Canada’s capital region and featuring long-standing members of Ottawa’s under appreciated death metal scene, Hatred Reigns are but a day from the release of their debut full length. Awaken the Ancients follows on the distant heels of there band’s 2018 debut EP Realms I: Affliction but doesn’t leave similar conceptualism in the rearview. For those of you who can’t get enough of their brutal technical death metal thematically based on What Dreams May Come, Dante’s Inferno, Milton’s Paradise Lost, and love wallowing in the murky anguish of life’s darkness, take an audio gander at the stream of the album located below. In the meantime, here’s what they had to say about their latest work:
“In a quest for liberation, the damned are ferried across by Charon who must navigate treacherous planes, confronting challenges from demons above and lurking waters below. Their odyssey takes them across the enigmatic river Styx, lured by the ancients towards Necropia, where ultimate judgement awaits. We are unleashing an infernal symphony of brutality and precision! Our music is a testament to the raw power and intricate craftsmanship that defines death metal. Each member has their own barrage of styles and influences which created the unique twist that is Hatred Reigns.
“Awaken The Ancients is not just an album; it’s a conceptual epic that traverses uncharted realms of sound and emotion. The album’s narrative follows a protagonist grappling with oppressive forces, leading to a summoning of the ancients who rise to liberate the tormented from their prolonged suffering. Plunged into an endless abyss, the tormented emerge upon a desolate shore, surrounded by aimless souls. This is not an adventure for the faint of heart, and should only be attempted by the hardiest of metalheads,
“Our album drops on December 1 and culminates the efforts of members whose collective efforts have achieved the goal of blending old and new school influences that comprise catchy hooks along with brutal dynamics. The album offers a taste of everything to a wide audience base, from Cryptopsy and Suffocation to Carcass and even Pantera, with hints of modern technical bands Origin and Archspire with glimpses of black metal’s Behemoth. We are excited to unleash this conceptual offering to the fans who shall embark on a voyage between Realms I: Affliction and Realm II: Affirmation thematically. Reign On!”
