H.E.R. Releases Cover of Foo Fighters’ ‘The Glass’

R&B

Award-winning singer, songwriter and producer H.E.R. has recorded a cover of “The Glass,” written and initially performed this year by Foo Fighters.

She initially performed the song with the rock band on Saturday Night Live on Oct. 28.

“THIS SONG MOVES ME. THANK YOU SO MUCH @foofighters,” wrote H.E.R. in an Instagram caption for a moving photo of the artwork and its audio.

H.E.R. collaborated with Grammy and Emmy-winning producer, songwriter, executive, and professor David “Swagg R’celious” Harris to produce the new version of the song, which Foo Fighters praised as a “stunning take.”

Foo Fighters have announced that both their version and H.E.R.’s take of “The Glass” will be released on a 7-inch vinyl. The band’s official website has already sold out of the record.

The original version of “The Glass” is featured on Foo Fighters’ latest album, But Here We Are, which recently received a Best Rock Album nomination at the 66th Grammy Awards.

H.E.R.’s recent interpretation comes shortly after she performed a cover of “Sweet Thing” with Chaka Khan at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, where Khan was one of the honorees this year.

Prior to her performance with Khan and the release of her new cover, H.E.R. debuted “The Journey,” an inspiring anthem about perseverance.

The song was written by the legendary Diane Warren and released on May 18 to coincide with ESPN’s storytelling for the 2023 NBA Playoffs, presented by Google Pixel.

H.E.R.’s last proper single was from her 2021 debut album, Back of My Mind. “Come Through,” featuring Chris Brown, reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart.

The Grammy-nominated, RIAA gold-certified album also included the Herb Alpert-sampled “Damage,” which peaked at No. 1 on urban and R&B radio.

Earlier this year, H.E.R. revealed to Zane Lowe of Apple Music that she is currently working on a new album. “You going to get it when you get it,” she said. “I’m in the studio. And this is the thing is I’ve been forced to pay attention to these deadlines and all these. I don’t care about this stuff anymore. I just want to make music. And when I feel like it’s ready, it’s going to be ready and you’ll get it.”

Outside of music, H.E.R. is currently focusing on her acting career. She is all set to play the character of Squeak in The Color Purple Musical, which is scheduled to debut on Christmas Day.

The Color Purple Musical will be directed by Blitz Bazawule and will feature an ensemble cast including Fantasia (as Celie), Danielle Brooks (as Sofia), Halle Bailey (as young Nettie), Corey Hawkins (as Harpo), Ciara (as adult Nettie), and many more.
