Full Album Stream: OWDWYR – “Receptor”

Metal

Sink your teeth into Receptor, the new album from California outfit OWDWYR. Sitting at the meeting point between death metal, modern prog and grindcore, Receptor is a beefy, technical album that never lets up.

Citing influences from Car Bomb and Fleshgod Apocalypse to classical composers with guest appearances from Navene Koperweis (Entheos, ex-Animals as Leaders), Kenny Grohowski (Imperial Triumphant, John Zorn), Kevin Paradis (Ne Obliviscaris, Benighted), Alex Cohen (Contrarian, ex-Pyrrhon), there’s a lot going on throughout Receptor. OWDWYR root themselves in a chugging style of death metal, employing a clean production style and darting off the beaten path for prog explorations, piano interludes and synth breaks.

Receptor is a concept album born from, and a tribute to, the bands, composers and genres that have most heavily influenced us,”OWDWYR tell Decibel. “It’s kind of a cosmic gumbo. We intently focused on dynamics in its composition and developed a sound that shifts across the span of the songs – hopefully without giving our listeners whiplash. Its completion has marked us with immense pride after years of seeing it take shape and grow into something not only real, but beyond our expectations – a bit of legacy for us to leave behind in case we get hit by a bus.”

The album comes out this Friday, October 20, but you can listen below.
