Babyface’s latest single “As a Matter of Fact” has locked in a third week at No. 1 on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart. This is the music icon’s longest time as a soloist at the top of this chart.
This move also pushes Babyface in the lead among male acts for the most weeks at No. 1 on the Adult R&B chart this year.
Usher (“GLU“) and Kenny Lattimore (“Take A Dose“) topped two consecutive weeks with their respective songs, while Tank’s collaboration (“See Through Love“) with Chris Brown spent a single week atop.
In December 2013, when Babyface collaborated with Toni Braxton on “Hurt You,” he achieved his most extended stay at No. 1. The duet, which appears on their Love, Marriage & Divorce album, reigned for four weeks.
Earlier this month, Babyface’s self-written song, “As a Matter of Fact,” helped him achieve his first solo No. 1 hit on the Adult R&B chart in 26 years.
Billboard aside, “As a Matter of Fact” repeats at No. 1 for a third consecutive week on R&B radio. It continues to block Tyrese’s current track “Don’t Think You Ever Loved Me” from the top spot.
On P Music Group, Babyface rolled out “As a Matter of Fact” in February. Co-produced Tommy Brown, the track arrived two days shy of his “America the Beautiful” performance during Super Bowl LVII.
It has not been announced whether his first solo single for P Music Group will be included in his upcoming album.
Shortly after his February release, Babyface unveiled the video for the Ari Lennox-featured “Liquor” from his 2022 album, Girls Night Out.
The album of collaborations was released on Capitol Records and included features from Ella Mai, Muni Long, Sevyn Streeter, Kehlani, Coco Jones and more.
“Keeps On Fallin’,” the album’s lead single featuring Mai, was released in June 2022. It went to No. 1 on R&B radio and No. 2 on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart. It also earned a Best Traditional R&B Performance nomination at the 65th Grammy Awards.
At the end of the last year, Rated R&B parked Girls Night Out at No. 29 on its 30 Best R&B Albums of 2022 list.
Rated R&B’s Danielle Brissett wrote, “Girls Night Out has a song to portray every situation from an evening on the town.”
Performing live is just as important to him as releasing music. Currently, Babyface has concerts scheduled nationwide throughout the summer and fall. To find out if he will be performing near you, visit his official website.
