R&B sensation Khalid has a new song featured on the newly released Barbie soundtrack. The track is titled “Silver Platter” and was co-written and co-produced by Chase Worrell, Denis Kosiak, and Jason Kellner.
With a lively piano-based production, “Silver Platter” is a bubbly pop and R&B track in which Khalid pursues a potential partner to prove that he is the perfect match to give them everything they desire and more. He’s got his work cut out, though, as they are one tough cookie to break in the love department.
He sings, “Fighting for affection from you never been easy / Giving me impressions that I gotta work hard / If I could pick you up, we’d be in Malibu, speeding / You show me directions, still I don’t know where you are.”
“Silver Platter” is part of the musical compilation to accompany the Greta Gerwig-directed Barbie, in theaters now. The soundtrack, Barbie The Album, includes features from Lizzo, Nicki Minaj, Ice Spice, Sam Smith, Billie Eilish, Dua Lipa, Tame Impala, and others.
This new song marks Khalid’s second solo musical release this year following “Softest Touch.” The latter track was released in March and will appear on his highly anticipated third album, scheduled to arrive sometime soon.
Khalid’s other album-related tracks include “Satellite” and “Skyline,” both of which came out last year.
In the meantime, as he puts the final touches on his upcoming album, Khalid has kept the featured appearances on tap. He appeared on tracks with Toosii, Kiana Ledé, and Bree Runaway.
Khalid’s featured role on Alicia Keys’ “Come For Me” with Lucky Daye put him at No. 1 on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart for the fourth time. It also topped R&B radio.
In concert-related news, Khalid remains a special guest on Ed Sheeran’s +–=÷x Tour. He joins Sheeran in North American stadiums for some shows later this month and next month until Sept. 2.
After his run with Sheeran, Khalid will play two festivals: Life is Beautiful Festival and Voyage Music Festival. Tickets are available on khalidofficial.com.
