Thirty-four years ago this month, Clint Black skyrocketed to fame with his debut album Killin’ Time. The on May 2, 1989 release boasts four consecutive No. 1 singles, as well as a No. 3 hit, and went on to be certified triple platinum.

Black’s second record, Put Yourself in My Shoes, was released in 1990 and nabbed him another triple-platinum album. The “Class of ’89” member joined the Grand Ole Opry in 1991 and continued releasing records year after year — more than 20 studio and compilation records in total, the most recent being 2015’s On Purpose.

Throughout his storied career, Black has celebrated 22 No. 1 singles (all of which he wrote or co-wrote), a Grammys trophy, several CMA and ACM awards, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and more than 20 million albums sold. All the while, he’s continued to tour, including on 2019’s Still … Killin’ Time Tour and the Hits. Hats. History. Tour with Trace Adkins.
