Robin Thicke, Yo Gotti Share ‘Brown Liquor’ Video

R&B

Robin Thicke has released a video for his single “Brown Liquor” with Yo Gotti.

Filmed in Little Havana, Miami, Florida’s Cuban neighborhood, the visual sees Thicke spending quality time with a love interest on the walkable Calle Ocho stretch.

The two can’t keep their eyes off each other, whether arm and arm or he’s leaning on a classic car with a cigar in his mouth, and she’s posing seductively in the front seat.

Yo Gotti enters the grainy video midway through to deliver his smooth-tongued bars alongside a dapper Thicke.

Meanwhile, the camera lingers on images of two men smoking cigars, playing checkers with bottom tops, and a fit man working out in VIWONE headphones.

“Brown Liquor” was released as Thicke’s second offering of 2022. The intoxicating song was a record he and Yo Gotti had in the can for a few years.

“I’ve been holding onto it for a while because it didn’t really fit my last album,” Thicke told Crisco Kidd. “My last album was called On Earth, and in Heaven and it was about the people that are here and the people that have moved on. It was dedicated to my father, who passed away, and Andre Harrell, my mentor who passed away.”

He added, “But right now, we’ve got the new season of The Masked Singer and I got my new haircut (laughs). I’m feeling sassy right now. I need my Yo Gotti record to get out there and I’m going to follow Gotti to the top of the charts, hopefully.

“Brown Liquor” is expected to appear on Thicke’s forthcoming ninth album, which he teased in January.

There are no details to support if his other 2022 single, “Day One Friend” featuring Rapsody, will make the tracklist. The song was a tribute to Andre Harrell, the influential executive who founded Uptown Records, who passed away in 2020.

“The song is dedicated to @AndreHarrell, my mentor and day one friend who taught me everything he knew and made my soul richer, my life better and my journey much more fun and fabulous!” Thicke wrote in an Instagram caption.

Thicke’s next album will follow his 2021 album, On Earth, and in Heaven. The LP spawned the hit single, “Look Easy,” which soared to No. 1 on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart.

On Earth, and in Heaven was among Rated R&B’s 30 Best R&B Albums of 2021.

Regarding On Earth, and in Heaven, Thicke shared with Rated R&B: “I think it’s for lovers, people falling in love, people looking for love and people that need to fall in love again.”

Up next for Thicke are a few concert dates. He is one of many acts set to play DJ Cassidy’s Pass The Mic Live! tour, which kicks off at the Prudential Center on May 12 in Newark, New Jersey. Ashanti, Ne-Yo, 112 and more are part of the lineup.

On May 28, Thicke will play the Stone Soul Concert at the Concord Pavilion in Concord, California. Additional performers include Kem, Fantasia, Stokley, Vivian Green and Kurtis Blow.

Before that, Thicke will head to Atlanta, Georgia, on May 19 to tape his performance for the eighth annual Black Music Honors.

The star-studded celebration will salute SWV (Urban Music Icon), Evelyn “Champagne” King (R&B Music Icon), Jeffrey Osborne (Legends Award), Missy Elliott (Music Innovator Icon), and The Hawkins Family (Gospel Music Icon).

The 2023 Black Music Honors will air Saturday, June 3, with national broadcast syndication from June 10 through July 2. It will also air on Bounce TV on June 19.
