Tamika Scott and Method Man Release New Song ‘Tonight’

R&B

Tamika Scott of Xscape has enlisted rapper/actor Method Man for her new solo single “Tonight,” which samples Nas’ “One Night.”

The liberating tune hears Scott dismissing any drama that comes her way as she unapologetically celebrates life. “It’s the weekend and I’m in my zone / Tonight I’m not trying to be home alone / Just freshened up, hopped out the tub / Ladies free all night at the club / Smelling real good, slip my outfit on / Any little stress that I had is gone,” Scott sings over hip-hop soul instrumentation.

Method Man, who opens the track, spits a hot verse that is a nod to acts such as Mobb Deep, Slick Rick and Xscape. “No limit on my commitment like some glue stick wit it / Me and my misses, hugs and kisses / We just different / Traces of lipstick / We can Xscape and just kick it,” he raps.

Scott initially released “Tonight” in 2019 without a rap verse. It was slated to appear on her EP, The Movie, which did not release.

Instead, she released Family Affair later that year. The project included appearances by 112’s Q Parker, musical duo OSHUN and Scott’s daughter Young Niyah.

“My inspiration for my new EP Family Affair is being able to share my first solo project with my family,” Scott exclusively told Rated R&B. “There’s a lot of talent in my family and we walk around our home creating and having a good time, so it feels good to be able to put some of the things on my project.”

Circling back to “Tonight,” the song comes on the heels of the series finale of SWV & Xscape: The Queens of R&B, which aired on Bravo.
