It seems like America’s Got Talent are going hard on the whole, ‘Look how much death metal freaks out your average person!’ thing. Earlier this month, the show featured a 10-year-old girl who blew audiences’ minds with her bellowed Spiritbox cover. Now, the show has brought on a choir of death metal singers, who are terrifying and delighting the judges and audience with their cover of Brittany Spears’ “Toxic.”
The group, named the Dremeka Choir, features 13 death metal vocalists, and performed both the infamous opera piece “O Fortuna” and a cover of “Toxic” for the judges. The response was mixed — Sofia Vergara liked them, Heidi Klum didn’t care for it, Howie Mandel was into it. But perhaps the most surprising praise came from Simon Cowell, who is known for being incredibly negative:
“It’s like demons in a choir singing the song from The Omen…It was so fantastically creepy. I’m all for going over to the dark side eventually, so I get it.”
With Simon’s ‘Yes,’ the choir continue on to the next round of the competition.
