Mary J. Blige Returns to Billboard Hot 100 After a Decade

R&B

Make way for the Queen, Mary J. Blige, who is back on the Billboard Hot 100 chart after an absence of more than a decade.

Her empowerment anthem, “Good Morning Gorgeous,” which is also the title track of her brand new album, has reached No. 83 during the tracking week of February 26.

The D’Mile-produced track, which H.E.R. helped co-produce, is the legendary singer’s 42nd entry on the Hot 100.

Blige’s last song that charted was the Drake-assisted “Mr. Wrong,” which peaked at No. 87 in February 2012. The Rico Love-penned tune appeared on her My Life II: The Journey Continues (Act 1) album.

Thanks to “Good Morning Gorgeous,” the newly crowned number-one song at Adult R&B, Blige’s career on the Hot 100 now stretches across four decades: 1990s, 2000s, 2010s, and 2020s.

This summer will mark 30 years since Blige made her debut Hot 100 appearance with “You Remind Me.” First released on the Strictly Business soundtrack and placed later on her blockbuster debut album What’s the 411?, “Remind” rode to No. 29 in August 1992.

The Dr. Dre-produced “Family Affair” remains her biggest hit, topping the Hot 100 for six weeks in the fall of 2001. That song, which she performed at Super Bowl LVI, saw a recent streaming surge of 160% on Spotify.

Also in the Billboard headlines is Blige’s 15th studio album. The set debuted at No. 14 on the Billboard 200 with first-week sales of more than 25,000 equivalent units.

Sales are bound to increase after additional promotional stops, including her upcoming NAACP Image Awards performance.

She is set to headline Jazz In The Gardens on March 12 in Miami. She also is on the marquee as the top performer at the Roots Picnic in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Another album from Blige is in talks. She confirmed Dr. Dre’s premature announcement that he’s producing her entire next album.
