Whatever happened to the Walmart yodel kid? He’s all grown up and has a normal job while still making epic music.
Believe it or not, Mason Ramsey is now 15 and has a music career all while being a normal kid. During the second half of 2021, he took a step back from social media and music. Then in mid-January 2022, he shared an Instagram post that explained his absence and shared photos of him at a school dance, celebrating his birthday, at his job and jet skiing.
“Sorry I’ve been so quiet on social media lately,” he began. “I’ve been living my life and took a step back from everything for a bit. I’m 15 now and a lot has changed since that day in Walmart. Hang tight because I’ve got big plans for 2022.”
In a follow-up post, Lil Yachty and Diplo loved his comment, “Between school & work, I’ve been doing great y’all thanks for asking.”
Ramsey first joined TikTok back in 2021 where he promoted his single and EP Twang and participated in viral trends. He amassed 1.6 million followers on the platform and with his return, his song “Before I Knew It” has gone viral. Thousands of people are line dancing and acting out the lyrics to the song. Ramsey’s videos with the tune have received millions of views.
“Upgraded from Walmart to Subway I see,” a follower wrote. Ramsey responded, ”Don’t knock the hustle y’all” and he promised that he makes “the tastiest subs in town. Try me @Gordon Ramsay.”
Another fan wrote, “Bro has a song with Young Thug, Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus and you work at Subway?”
“I’m here working at the old Subway in town, actually it’s something else now, we make pizzas and subs,” Ramsey said in a video. He then proceeded to create his favorite dish, a pepperoni, mushroom and jalapeno pizza.
Ramsey first went viral in March 2018 when he was just 11. He sang “Lovesick Blues” with his signature yodel at his local Walmart in Harrisburg, Illinois. The video reached over 25 million views and shortly after, his music career was launched.
