Metallica Had 1.3 Billion Spotify Streams in 2021

Metallica have joined the growing list of bands to share their Spotify streaming stats from 2021, and no one will be surprised to learn that metal’s biggest band had an impressive year.

Metallica tallied 1.3 billion streams on the platform in 2021, likely owing in part to their 30th anniversary reissue of the Black Album and all the activity surrounding that. 58 million different people in 178 countries (out of 195 total in the world) streamed the band’s music for 112.2 million hours. The average listener streamed 22.4 songs by the band.

Congrats to Metallica on another successful year.

Metallica spent much of 2021 celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Black Album with some special edition releases. They have also been deep in “some pretty serious writing” for their next album since November 2020 with the most recent update, indicating ten songs were partially written, coming this past May via frontman James Hetfield.
