Barbados Names Rihanna National Hero

Hip Hop

Barbados has declared Rihanna a national hero.

On Tuesday (Nov. 29), the former British colony cut ties with Queen Elizabeth II and began a new era as a republic country. During its presidential inauguration in Bridgetown, Barbados’ Prime Minister Mia Mottley bestowed the 33-year-old musician and business mogul the honor.

“On behalf of a grateful nation, but an even prouder people, we therefore present to you the designee for national hero of Barbados, Ambassador Robyn Rihanna Fenty. “May you continue to shine like a diamond and bring honor to your nation by your works, by your actions and to do credit wherever you shall go,” Mottley said.

On Wednesday (Nov, 30), Rihanna, who was appointed the ambassador of Barbados in 2018, gave a heartfelt speech during a ceremony. Congrats!
