R&B

Scan the list of Best R&B Performance nominees for the 64th Grammy Awards, and you will find that each artist and their nominated song achieved high placements on diverse Billboard charts.

Here’s a chart recap pertaining to next year’s Best R&B Performance nominees.

Snoh Aalegra —  “Lost You”

The second single from Snoh Aalegra’s Temporary Highs in the Violet Skies entered the Adult R&B Airplay chart at No. 25 during the tracking week of July 10, 2021. Featuring writing input from PJ Morton and production from No ID and Maneesh, the enchanting track halted at No. 6 in September.

Justin Bieber — “Peaches” featuring Daniel Caesar & Givēon

Justin Bieber can put down his placard. Finally, after a year of campaigning to have his future work properly recognized, partially in the R&B field, by the Recording Academy, he gets results. His monster hit single “Peaches” with Daniel Caesar & Givēon debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in March. It marked both Caesar’s and Givēon’s first No. 1 single on this popular chart.

H.E.R. — ”Damage”

H.E.R. followed a shared hit single on urban radio with Jhené Aiko with one of her own in March 2021. Released in October 2020, “Damage” reached number one on urban radio, marking her first of its kind. Subsequent to going platinum, the Herb Alpert-sampled track darted to the top at R&B radio and eventually did the same on the Adult R&B Airplay chart. H.E.R. reigned for eight weeks on the latter chart.

Silk Sonic — ”Leave The Door Open”

When Anderson .Paak and Bruno Mars announced they were forming Silk Sonic in late February, two words immediately came to mind: number one. That’s where their debut single “Leave The Door Open” went on multiple charts, including the Billboard Hot 100. The ‘70s soul-inspired groove held the top position for two non-consecutive weeks.

While making strides on the popular singles chart, “Leave The Door Open” placed Silk Sonic’s name in the history books for its fast, four-week arrival to the Adult R&B Airplay summit. Mars and .Paak are the only male artists to make this happen in record time.

Jazmine Sullivan — “Pick Up Your Feelings”

If anyone is riding high on wins this year, it’s Jazmine Sullivan. Earlier this year, “Pick Up Your Feelings” topped R&B radio days before it duplicated the same success on the Adult R&B Airplay chart. The Heaux Tales single stayed atop of the former chart for two straight weeks. Most significantly, the stinging kiss-off gave Sullivan her number one hits on R&B radio and Billboard charts.

The 64th Grammy Awards will air live on Monday, Jan. 31, 2022, at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT on CBS. See who else picked up nominees here.
