Three members of Avenged Sevenfold have teamed up on a Misfits cover to ring in the start of October, or as I’ve seen a lot of folks saying online lately, “spooky season.” Can we please knock it off with that shit? So cringe.
Guitarist Zacky Vengeance, bassist Johnny Christ and drummer Brooks Wackerman all don classic Misfits-inspired makeup for the effort, their own version of “Hybrid Moments” from the horror-punk band’s 1985 record Legacy of Brutality.
Vengeance, who handles vocals on the track and does a damn fine Danzig voice, explains:
“We wanted to have a little fun with you to kick off the Halloween Season. Brooks wanted to do a Misfits song. I wanted to paint my face like Kiss and call ourselves the KissFits and Johnny wanted to drink and walk around town dressed like a skeleton. I forgot to paint my face like Kiss. We still kept it punk rock and spooky for ya! Enjoy!!”
You can give the cover a stream below along with a quarantine-style performance video.
Avenged Sevenfold frontman M. Shadows said in an interview earlier this year that a new album from the group would come out before summer 2022, at which point the band expects to be on the road. Their last, The Stage, was released in October 2016.
