VanJess Releases ‘Homegrown (Deluxe)’ Project

R&B

In February, VanJess ended their nearly three-year project drought with the EP Homegrown. The sister duo keeps the era going with a deluxe version that expands from nine to 14 songs.

While the reissue continues to hone in on VanJess’ collaborative energy with the previously shared remix of “Slow Down” featuring Lucky Daye and the TOKiMONSTA-assisted “Say Yes,” it allows room for lone tracks like “Surrender” and “Love & Hope.”

In celebration of the regular edition’s release, VanJess chatted with Rated R&B about the process behind Homegrown. The project, teased four years earlier, finally came to fruition amid the quarantine.

“We felt like we really came full circle, I think we just came to this realization that we’re still kind of the same people. We’re still homegrown in a sense, you know what I mean? We’ve never changed the way we’ve done things,” shared Jessica.

The extended version of Homegrown comes just one week after releasing their live performance of the “Slow Down (Remix)” Daye.

VanJess will perform new music at H.E.R.’s Lights On Festival on September 19, at Concord Pavilion in Concord, Calif. They’ll follow with a set at AFROPUNK Atlanta on September 25.
