Dave Mustaine Has Raised His Cameo Price Three Times in a Week

Metal

Dave Mustaine, believer in the free market, has raised the price of a personalized video on Cameo three times in a matter of days since joining the service, ultimately doubling his fee.

Mustaine first announced he was on Cameo, the service that lets you pay celebrities to record personalized messages, last week. Starting at $150 a pop, Mustaine quickly raised the fee to $200, where it sat when we first reported that you can hire the red-maned one to sing Happy Birthday to a friend. As of yesterday, Blabbermouth reported the fee was up to $250… and now it’s up to $300!

Clearly videos from Mustaine are in high demand, and raising the price is presumably an effort to whittle down the volume of requests while also maximizing his effort to income ratio. Think of it this way: Mustaine can spend 15 minutes a day recording four Bar Mitzvah mazel tovs and walk away with $900 (Cameo takes a 25% cut). If he does that five times a week he’ll earn $4,500 per week, and if he does that every week he’ll earn $234,000/year. Not bad!!

Given, demand might not hold after this initial burst, and he may not want to put in the effort every week. But even if Mustaine makes just half of that, that’s a helluva lot of dough for not a lot of effort.
