Reflecting on the album for its 25th anniversary, Mike told Rated R&B, “We feel like this album was pretty much the genesis of what is considered now R&B music. We took a chance on ourselves. We listened to Puff, and he basically told us that this was going to be what R&B music is going to be 25 years later.”

He continued, “We feel like without that. I don’t think R&B would be as prevalent. I don’t think it would be as worldwide as it is now. I’m not saying 112 was the only reason why R&B is where it is right now, but we definitely contributed to the sound that is R&B music right now.”

Slim added, “There are so many gems in that first album. If you’re interested in backgrounds. If you want to hear chords and how you can push things to extraordinary levels and stuff like that, that’s what 112 stood for. If you’re a vocal enthusiast, do runs, and if you’re in certain fields, [know that] you can intertwine all different fields. A vocalist like myself and a very soulful artist like Mike can exist in the same situation. Don’t let nobody tell you you can’t. All of us had different fields. We all came from different vortexes, different dimensions, to come together to make this one big solar system. If you’re interested in those things and just a true art form of music? Press play.”

The Room 112 Touris titled after their 1998 sophomore album, which included the Luther Vandross-sampled hit “Love Me” featuring Mase and the Lil Zane-assisted “Anywhere.”

112 last’s project,Forever, was released in 2020. The EP, recorded by Slim and Mike, included the singles “For Us” and “Spend It All.”

It’s been nearly eight years since all original members appeared on the same project. In 2017, they released their albumQ Mike Slim Daron, which featured a collaboration with fellow R&B group Jagged Edge (“Both Of Us”).

As for Total and Case, theRoom 112 Tourwill also commemorate their respective 30th anniversaries. Total – the trio consisting of Pam, Kima and Keisha – released their self-titled debut album in February 1996.

The album featured their first single, “Can’t You See” with The Notorious B.I.G. The James Brown-sampled hit also reached No. 13 on the Hot 100.

Case, born Case Woodard, released his self-titled debut album in August 1996. The project included the RIAA gold-certified “Touch Me, Tease Me.”

Def Jam Recordings

In September 2024, Case released his single “Naked” featuring R&B gents RL and Raheem DeVaughn. It’s the lead-off to his upcoming albumLove Jones, Vol. 2,a sequel to his seventh album, Therapy(2018).

“I wanted to make R&B fun again. I wanted to write a song that captured the feeling you used to have without it sounding dated,” Case said. “I don’t do a lot of collabs because a lot of times collaborations feel forced. This was organic and it feels good. I hope it gives you the same feeling and even more so.”
