Year of the Knife’s Madi Watkins Discharged After Three Months in a Hospital

Metal

After spending three months in a hospital following a scary motor vehicle accident, Year of the Knife vocalist Madi Watkins has finally recovered enough to be discharged. In a video posted to Twitter by her husband Brandon Watkins, you can see Madi being wheeled out the front door as medical staff stand and applaud her on her way out. It’s a truly emotional moment, especially since she was originally listed in critical condition when she first arrived.

The news comes days after the band released two singles from their upcoming album No Love Lost, which was obviously recorded before the incident back in June.

The whole ordeal started when the band was involved in a serious accident while traveling from Utah to Colorado. According to first person accounts, the touring van collided with an 18 wheeler, resulting in everyone in the band sustaining injuries. Aaron Kisielewski and Andrew Kisielewski both suffered fractured legs and other trauma, while Brandon Watkins had a concussion.

Sadly, Madi took the brunt of the damage, sustaining significant injuries that left her facing a long road to recovery. Though regular updates from her husband and Year Of The Knife guitarist Brandon Watkins show significant progress from the band’s vocalist, things are still going one day at a time.

Even though she’s out of the hospital, it’s very likely that she’s got some more recovery work ahead of her, including some physical rehab to get moving again. Still, it’s wonderful to see that she’s able to smile, talk, and get some fresh air after being stuck in a hospital for as long as she was there. If you’ve ever been laid out in a hospital bed for an extended period of time, you know how good it feels to get out.

Seeing as she’s still got some work left, it’s very likely that your continued contributions to the band’s recovery fund on their GoFundMe would be appreciated. So far they’ve raised more than $253,000 through nearly 6,000 donations, but given the American healthcare system and how long she was receiving treatment, they’ll likely need to get closer to their $300,000 goal.
