Driving deeper into a summer that promises to be one of the hottest on record, we thought a video that showcases the aging infrastructure of our capitalist overlords wreaking environmental devastation would be just the thing to make us all feel warmer sweatier and cozier more terrified.

For that, we turn to Hamilton, Ontario-based punishing death/doom outfit Absorb, who is exclusively unveiling the title track from their forthcoming Smog EP right here, right now.

Set to release on July 26th via Hypaethral Records, Smog EP sees the band embrace denser, more atmospheric compositions. Vocalist Erik Thorkildsen elaborates on the band’s progression: “This is our second release with Absorb’s current lineup, enveloping the listener in a dense, thunderous, buzzsaw fuzz-laced journey that resonates long after the last note. Combining soul-crushing riffs and intense, varied vocal delivery, it delivers a cathartic punch, leaving you feeling raw and contemplative.”

Of the title track’s video, Thorkildsen continued, “The song ‘Smog’ is upbeat compared to our back catalog. Lyrically, it deals with the grief of losing someone close and familiar. It’s a mental dump and a bit nonsensical. I believe this song flows the most naturally of our songs to date.”

For fans of Primitive Man, Thou, Indian, FÓRN and Graves At Sea, the Smog EP is a three-track, twenty-five-minute aural assault produced, engineered, and mixed by Nick Ginn and mastered by Jamie King, with guitars engineered and recorded by Andy Dmytryshyn. Smog EP will be available in limited CD (100 x four-panel digipak), limited 12” vinyl (100 Smog, 100 Black), and digital formats. Preorders are available now at Bandcamp.
