Mahalia Releases New Song ‘Letter to Ur Ex’

R&B

Mahalia breaks out the pen and paper on her new single, “Letter To Ur Ex.”

The track, written solely by Mahalia, is a song of experience, where she sees herself in a young woman who’s still running after the man she’s courting.

Sung in a flawless fashion, Mahalia sits down with her man’s scorned ex and puts her up on game, simply telling her she’s been a broken-hearted girl. She also professes how the path she’s taking to win him back is causing a strain on what she was working to build with him.

In a statement, Mahalia explained how a text message to her man from his ex influenced her writing perspective of the new track.

She said, “I think when everybody begins a new relationship, it’s vital that it feels like a fresh start. Like everything before doesn’t really matter and the next journey begins now with only the two of you. I realized through this experience that isn’t always the case.

But, really, I just wanted to tell her how her actions were making me feel. How her gain in closure was my loss in love. And though I am also a woman who has felt all of those feelings before, I wanted to ask her to let him go so that I could hold him close. To close their old door so that I could open our new one.”

“Letter To Ur Ex,” Mahalia’s first release since October’s “Roadside” featuring AJ Tracey, gets video treatment. Watch it below.

Last year, Mahalia dished out two other songs, including the Rico Nasty-assisted “Jealous” and “Whenever You’re Ready.” However, at this time, none of the tracks have been said to be attached to an official album.

In May 2020, Mahalia released an EP titled Isolation Tapes. The three-track project conceded with her 22nd birthday.

Her last full-length album, Love and Compromise, arrived in September 2019. The LP featured the top 10 R&B single “What You Did,” featuring Ella Mai.
