Low-and-slow Mexican City sludge duo Oculto are back with another psyched-out full-length vinyl LP, Mal de Ojo, exclusively on Things From Beyond Records. This fuzzed-up five-track doom fest—mostly instrumentals—is propelled by Adán Nájera (bass/vocals) and Gerson Paredes (drums), who grind through grimy riffs and crushing, doomy tempos on their fourth album.
Mal de Ojo will be issued in a limited vinyl run of 250 from Things From Beyond on March 7, as well as available digitally. Place your preorder here.
The band had this to say about its latest full-length:
“Mal de Ojo (the evil eye) comes from the popular expression about cursing someone just by looking at them. We as a band believe that humanity is cursed by envy, greed and hatred. With this new album we wanted to focus the themes on sounds and places that we had not experienced before, alluding to the evil eye of life itself. We recorded the album in the same studio as Penumbra, but this time on magnetic tape which gives it a different texture and warmer, more saturated tone.”
