Metal

Greetings, Decibel readers!

Hope you enjoyed the fourth of July holiday as I did — partying with friends and eating unwise quantities of unhealthy food. Because America.

But now, back to business. Because metal.

Cranial Disorder – Congenital Depravity

Insanely brutal death metal from Indonesia on an Italian record label. That should tell you everything right there, and should be an easy sell for anyone looking for a brain-scrambling good time!

Krallice – Inorganic Rites

I’ve long since lost track of the Krallice canon, but I will say I love this direction for the band’s music. The use of keyboards really adds a dimension to the sound that, at least for my taste, was missing from some of the older material.

Obscene – Agony & Wounds

Imagine classic American death metal poured through the filter of Gardens of Grief-era At the Gates, and you’ll get something close to the noise created by these Indianapolis-based death-dealers. It’s a super compelling mixture, and makes for a rewarding listen and re-listen.

Pestilent Death – Pathways to Infinite Malignity

Gotta love a title like that. You know exactly what you’re getting into with a band like this: thick, crushing, and unrelenting death metal. The production is as clear as it needs to be, no frills, no unwanted surprises, just blood, decay and death everywhere you look. Glorious.

Venhelgd – Atropos Doctrina

Deadly-serious blackened death metal from Sweden. This is the band’s long-awaited followup to 2018’s Deimos Sanktuarium.
