Metal

Photo by Anthony Mehlhaff If our premiere of the insane new video from Squid Pisser is your introduction to this avant grind collaboration between Tommy Meehan (guitar) and Seth Carolina (drums), you’re getting a pretty accurate representation of what this project is about. The Southern California duo enlisted a whole bunch of friends to guest

Oxford rockers Desert Storm have been a mainstay in the UK stoner doom scene since 2007. During their 15+ year tour of duty they have shared the stage with the likes of Orange Goblin and Crowbar. Their 2020 record Omens was unfortunately perfectly titled for the pandemic looming ahead. Unable to tour and support that

It has somehow been 23 years since Origin‘s self-titled debut. Nearly a quarter of a century later, the Kansas/New York/California quartet have cemented their legend as one of technical brutal death metal’s indispensable acts. While their impressive evolution is inarguable, they haven’t forgotten their roots, as evidenced by this new ripping rendition of their debut

Sweden’s Unpure have been around for a long time, forming in 1991 and putting out four full-length albums. Stylistically, think of them as a thrash-infused version of Svartsyn, especially 2004’s excellent World Collapse. But the band went quiet since then, a silence they intend to cease now with Prophecies Ablaze, due out on Friday via Invictus Productions and The

After over 12 years, we’ve finally reached the 150th entry in the Decibel Flexi Series. And we couldn’t be prouder than to commemorate the occasion with a killer new one-two punch of death metal/hardcore from Little Rock big guns Terminal Nation. “Concrete Hell” and “A Pound of Flesh or a Gallon of Blood” were recorded

Iron Maiden made it work, so why can’t Michigan melodic thrashers Finality do the same? Utilize three guitarists, that is. Like Maiden (who coincidentally wrote a song called “Revelations” about 40 years ago) this new six-piece—Tony Asta (vocals), Hiran Deraniyagala (guitar), John Artuso (guitar), Joe Cady (guitar), Mike Heugel (bass), Dan Fayz (drums)—is loaded with

Photo: Raymond Ahner Suicidal Tendencies’ barn-burning self-titled debut is one of the essential extreme albums. Released four decades ago this year, Suicidal Tendencies is a stew of teen anger, squealing guitars, hilarious and confessional lyrics and replay-worthy songs. It helped birth crossover and yet is in no way tethered to the genre. It made waves

The voiceover at the beginning of Smoulder’s “Victims of Fate” might sound familiar to fans of the revolving paperback racks in used bookstores. It’s delivered by none other than Michael Moorcock, the fantasy fiction godhead and creator of Elric of Melniboné, Tanelorn, and the beloved Eternal Champion multiverse. Like so many other true metal bands,

Where they from?Argentina. So the NFL playoffs are here. I’m sure it would be such an exciting time if your team were in it! The closest I get is the second-hand thrill of rooting for my friends’ teams, which is essentially like watching your friends hook up with someone you’re interested in. Like, “wow, great

We’re here because You’re Living All Over Me is unquestionably one of the most important records in the development of alternative rock. This is a stone-cold fact. Four years before grunge catapulted underground music into the mainstream, Dinosaur Jr. laid out a practical blueprint for freaky, noisy “ear-bleeding country.” This is a style that has

Happy Friday, Decibel readers! Come to think of it, happy Friday the 13th! Don’t worry, everyone, it’s January. I’m pretty sure Jason spends this time hibernating until the first leaves of autumn begin to fall over Camp Crystal Lake. Anyway, time for another set of new releases. I feel like the year hasn’t really begun

Well, this latest video from Finnish death-doom trio God Disease isn’t gonna fill your soul with warmth and joy (not that you likely came here looking for such things anyway). The track, “Ashes,” is a lumbering funereal crusher that pretty much wallows in suffering and sorrow. The accompanying video, courtesy of Aarni Visuals, is equally dispiriting.

Photo by Cody Introspective post-metallers Windchimes have released a new video, “She Begs,” and you can see it with us first. Like much of their music, the song takes on themes of environmental despair and mental struggles told through a lilting, melodic take on heaviness. Of the song, the band cryptically say, “Gaia now drowns
