Blast Worship: Fadead – Decibel Magazine

Metal

Where they from?
Erba, Italy. Football season is in full swing, you walk through the airport and see everyone rocking jerseys of their favorite NFL team. Say what you will about sports, but football seems to dominate the national conscience in a way where you feel like you can talk to anyone about it. I saw my uncle over the weekend and we literally spent a good four hours discussing whether or not Caleb Williams is the real deal (he’s not). Hey, anything is better than talking about the election.

Why the hype?
I spent all week listening to this band trying to figure out if they used a drum machine or not. Then I revisited the Bandcamp bio and saw it was. This band does a good job of avoiding a lot of the traps of traditional drum programming and retains a certain organic feel to the percussive section. Riff-wise, this band channels a lot of Insect Warfare and even elements of Australia’s Meth Leppard, high praise for a grindcore dork like myself. I also spent a lot of time this week thinking about whether this band’s named was ‘Faded’ or ‘Fadead.’ This is what happens when you have too much free time on your hands.

Latest release?
Split with Artificial Extinction out now on Grindwar Records. Do grindcore records really need to be longer than five minutes? Unless you’re writing Prowler In The Yard Part Duex I say no. These four songs have everything you need: hellacious blasts, gutterals, circle pit parts and even the occasional oompa beat. Faded, indeed.
