John Legend Earns First Grammy Nom for Best Children’s Music Album

R&B

Twenty years after his debut, John Legend is still reaching new heights. The singer, songwriter and musician’s album My Favorite Dream has been nominated for Best Children’s Music Album at the 2025 Grammy Awards.

It’s Legend’s first nomination in this category. Here are the nominees for Best Children’s Music Album at the 2025 Grammys:

  • Brillo, Brillo! – Lucky Diaz And The Family Jam Band
  • Creciendo – Lucy Kalantari & The Jazz Cats
  • My Favorite Dream – John Legend
  • Solid Rock Revival – Rock For Children
  • World Wide Playdate – Divinity Roxx and Divi Roxx Kids.

Legend took to Instagram to express his excitement about his new nomination. “My Favorite Dream holds a very special place in my heart. It’s my first children’s album, inspired by the heart of our family. Working alongside the incredibly gifted @sufjan brought this dream to life in ways I could have never imagined,” he wrote.

Further, Legend’s reassuring track “Always Come Back” from My Favorite Dream has landed a nod for Best Arrangement, Instruments and Vocals, which is an arranger’s award. Since Legend is not credited as an arranger on the song, he isn’t technically nominated for it; Matt Jones is.

Jones wrote on Instagram, “I’m super grateful to have been part of this Grammy-nominated song for Best Arrangement, Instrumental and Vocals, and huge thanks to @johnlegend for always bringing me in on such incredible projects. Big thanks as well to all the amazing players for bringing the arrangement to life, to Patrick Curry for always being a great engineer, and to the amazing staff at Bandrika Studios.”

Legend is, however, nominated for Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella for his contribution to Jacob Collier’s “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” which they share with Tori Kelly. “What an honor to be nominated for another arranging award with the uber-talented @jacobcollier and @torikelly!” Legend wrote in the same Instagram post.

He added, “Thank you to the @recordingacademy for recognizing our labor of love, and thank you to the Children’s Music community for welcoming this rookie into your beautiful world. These nominations aren’t just for me and my family—they’re for everyone who believes in the magic of music, family, togetherness and L-O-V-E.”

Circling back to My Favorite Dream, the album was released Aug. 30 via Republic Records: Kids & Family. The family-friendly album was preceded by the heartwarming tune “L-O-V-E.” The album, produced by multi-instrumentalist Sufjan Stevens, included a mix of original songs written by Legend and covers of songs from Fisher-Price’s beloved toys.

Regarding My Favorite Dream, the 12-time Grammy winner shared, “I’m right in the thick of fatherhood. My parents loved to sing around the house, making up bedtime songs for us and songs to motivate and inspire us. And Chrissy and I also love singing to our kids. We make up little jingles and ditties for them all the time. In our home, music is very important to the way we interact and communicate with them.”

Legend’s Grammy nominations mark his first as a lead act since the 63rd Grammy Awards, where he took home a trophy for Best R&B Album for Bigger Love. Since then, he received three nods at the 65th Grammy Awards for his appearance on DJ Khaled’s “God Did” with Rick Ross, Lil Wayne, Jay-Z, and Fridayy.

The 67th Grammy Awards takes place Sunday, Feb. 2, 2025, at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. See the other 2025 Grammy nominees.
