Promising soul singer Devon Gilfillian has released an official music video for his buzzing single, “Love You Anyway.”
The video, directed by $ECK, was filmed in a warehouse. It starts with several participants of various ethnicities and gender identities sitting in a portrait setting. They are asked the question, “What changes would you like to see in the world?”
During the video, Gilfillian performs “Love You Anyway” while participants take photos and engage in tug of war.
“Love You Anyway” is the title track of Gilfillian’s sophomore album, out now on Fantasy Records. In September, he collaborated with indie band Sammy Rae & The Friends on a new version.
“My dream is for this song to bring all communities together to have a conversation. There’s so much hate in this world that we could lessen by truly getting to know each other. I’m honored that Sammy Rae has added her incredible voice to this song,” Gilfillian commented about the updated version.
Rae added, “It’s my honor to be featured on a song as beautiful, close-to-the heart and relevant as this one. The melody and lyrics speak to any and all of us, and Devon’s compassionate voice and writing are so comforting.”
In a June interview with Rated R&B, Gilfillian discussed the original version of “Love You Anyway,” which rounds out the album.
“I wanted to punctuate the album with that song because it holds onto that optimism that we can come together and figure out how to hold these politicians accountable,” Gilfillian stated.
Love You Anyway was released on April 7 through Fantasy Records. In an interview with Rated R&B, Gilfillian discussed the album’s creation and his hopes for how fans will receive it.
“I would love [for] it to open people up to conversations — hard conversations, political conversations, religious conversations, all conversations that are uncomfortable. I also want them to dance and forget about the sh*t that’s going on in their life. If I can get those two things to happen, then I think I feel like I did a good job,” Gilfillian shared.
As part of the album campaign, Gilfillian has promoted the single “All I Really Wanna Do.” The Billboard-charting song has been reimagined in different mixes: Sunrise and Sunset. Camper (Coco Jones, Brandy) produced the Sunset mix.
Gilfillian is currently on a tour across North America in order to promote his latest album, Love You Anyway.
