Nick Hipa (ex-As I Lay Dying) Launches New Band, Mire

Metal

Former As I Lay Dying guitarist Nick Hipa, who recently announced that he’d quit the band a year prior after a two-year stint in their reunion, has launched a new project, Mire, along with guitarist Ryan Glisan and vocalist Benton McKibbern. You can stream the outfit’s debut single, “Refined,” below.

As a general fan of Nick’s — both musically and as a person — I’m stoked to see him venturing out on his own. I’m also excited to hear him branching out musically, as “Refined” shows a much different (and heavier) direction than anything we’ve heard from Hipa in the past. Welcome back, dude!

Hipa commented:

“Very stoked to share some new music from my band Mire. Ryan, Benton, and I started this journey together in 2017, with the simple desire to create stylistically unrestrained music based on mutual admiration for riff based songwriting.

“Our first single ‘Refined‘ is out now. It’s a decently pummeling tune that represents just one facet of what we’ve created together. I really hope you dig it, and look forward to sharing more tunes in the near future.”

You can stream “Refined” below. We’ll keep you posted on more from Mire.
