Snoh Aalegra’s New Album ‘Temporary Highs in the Violet Skies’ Evokes Cinematic Soul

R&B

Snoh Aalegra is the closest thing this new generation has to a modern-day Sade Adu. She has a mystic, beauty, and gorgeous vocal mastery she self-described as cinematic soul. Today, the singer-songwriter releases her third album, Temporary Highs in the Violet Skies. It comes two years after – Ugh, Those Feels Again, her sophomore album, which ranked No. 5 on Rated R&B’s year-end albums list in 2019

Once again, Aalegra embodies this superhuman ability to convey the emotive readings of the bruised heart recovering from a fractured romance. Her sensitive sound is felt on “We Don’t Have to Talk About It,” a hushed piano composition where an emotional rift goes unspoken.

Playing the submissive role is the theme of “Just Like That,” a supple jam that finds Aalegra intimately yearning, giving her love interest permission to be in charge of all areas.

If “Neon Peach” featuring Tyler, The Creator, were sold as a compact cassette in its prime, the spool would have to be repaired often. It’s just that good—perhaps the album’s centerpiece. Her teamwork with Tyler continues a few tracks down on “In The Moment,” a sizable expression of remorse for a fallout between lovers.

Others worthy of mention are “Everything” and “Lost You,” the album’s second single heading up the R&B radio chart. The euphoric former, in parts, inherits the offhand vocal touches of Marsha Ambrosius, specifically towards the end.

At a 46-minute length, Temporary Highs in the Violet Skies goes without faults, providing listeners with well-chosen songs to remedy those feels she knows all too well.

Aalegra was recently announced as a top biller for the 2021 Broccoli City Festival on October 2. She will perform hits and new music, along with Lucky Daye, Justine Skye, and many more. Find ticket information here
