Chlöe has collaborated with Amazon Music to release two faithful renditions of holiday classics for its Originals series.
As part of the seasonal campaign, the Grammy-nominated singer and songwriter gives “Merry Christmas Baby,” popularized by Otis Redding, a new spin.
The festive song will receive more attention as it’s featured in the opening credits of Candy Cane Lane, a new holiday movie that stars Eddie Murphy and Tracee Ellis Ross. The movie will be available globally on Prime Video Dec. 1.
“In recreating a classic, I wanted to make sure I was honoring the original artists but also putting my own personal spin on the tracks. With ‘Merry Christmas Baby’ I kept listening back to Otis Redding’s original so that I could match the soul in his voice,” says Chlöe.
Chlöe goes a step further with her twist on holiday favorites, sharing a bold, impassioned cover of “Winter Wonderland.”
Regarding the latter interoperation, Chlöe says, “For ‘Winter Wonderland,’ I wanted the musicality to feel classic but also add my harmonies and chopped up samples throughout. I hope fans feel holiday joy and cheer when they hear my Amazon Music Original holiday tracks this year, however it means to them!”
“Merry Christmas Baby” and “Winter Wonderland,” both exclusive to Amazon Music, mark Chlöe’s first taste of new music since her debut album, In Pieces, released in March.
In Pieces, which Parkwood Entertainment/Columbia Records released, debuted at No. 17 on Billboard’s Top R&B Albums chart. The album’s performance was driven by the lead single “Pray It Away” and “How Does It Feel,” featuring Chris Brown.
Additional promotion for In Pieces included a solo Tiny Desk concert.
She will continue the performance aspect of promotion when she joins the inaugural Honeyland Festival lineup on Saturday, Nov. 11, in Sugar Land, Texas. Miguel and Summer Walker are also set to perform during day one.
