Video Premiere: Axioma – ‘Primal Descent’

Ohio is a miserable place, so it makes sense that self-proclaimed “apocalyptic metal” outfit Axioma would hail from one of the state’s largest cities, Cleveland. After two albums on Translation Loss, the post-black metal band are set to release new EP Primal Descent next month via new label Stained Glass Torments.

Written in 2022, immediately after the release of second album Sepsis and in the wake of a global pandemic and social uprisings, Primal Descent sees the band embrace a nihilistic worldview. For evidence, we present the title track, which you can hear below alongside an accompanying video. “Primal Descent” the song feels punchy and aggressive, the guitars carrying an ominous tone and the drums feeling immediate and nearby. Even the song’s comparatively-quiet interlude feels gloomy, with the video showing images of mass death destruction, as well as a beating heart.
