R&B

Rihanna extends her membership in the Recording Industry Association of America’s (RIAA) diamond club.

Her 2011 single “We Found Love,” featuring Calvin Harris, who wrote and produced the track, has been certified diamond with more than 10 million equivalent units sold.

This new RIAA achievement marks Rihanna’s second diamond award, as her 2010 collaboration “Love The Way You Lie” with Eminem passed this mark in May 2013. It’s now 13x multi-platinum, her best-selling single to date.

“We Found Love” is Rihanna’s first certified diamond single as a lead artist. She has three other songs vying for this coveted honor, including “Stay,” “Work,” and most recently, “Needed Me.” Each of the latter three tunes has sales of nine million equivalent units.

“We Found Love,” lifted from Rihanna’s Talk That Talk album, peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It’s her longest-reigning single on the main singles chart, topping for 10 weeks, beginning Nov. 12, 2011.

Additionally, “We Found Love” topped the following Billboard charts: Pop Airplay (eight weeks at No.1); Dance Club Songs (one week at No. 1); and Rhythmic Airplay (nine weeks at No. 1).

At the 55th Grammy Awards in 2013, “We Found Love” won Best Short Form Music Video. It was her first win in this category.

Speaking of the video for “We Found Love,” it has amassed more than one billion views on YouTube. The same goes for the studio version on Spotify, with an excess of 1.1 billion listens.

Last month, Rihanna’s “Only Girl (In the World)” topped the 7x multi-platinum mark, becoming her most certified song from her Loud album.

Rihanna has earned several other RIAA accolades this year, including a platinum award for “Lift Me Up,” an Oscar-nominated song from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

In other Rihanna-related news, Harmony Samuels, the album producer of Fantasia’s 2013 album Side Effects of You, shared how “In Deep” was originally meant for Ri Ri.

“It was definitely a spiritual experience, especially when [Fantasia] sang it. Even though it was for Rihanna, Fantasia brought a whole new life to it. Not to sound churchy, but she made it a worship song. I feel like Maverick City can do that song right now,” Samuels shared.
