Single Review: Randy Edelman: Pretty Girls

Country, Pop

Our attitudes about beauty and attraction are tightly bound within the question of romantic love. “Pretty Girls” by composer Randy Edelman is utterly attractive in an enticing yet forbidden way. Recently released via Tribeca Records the pop-country tune is a dazzling and effervescent re-invention spawned from original song released a long time ago and now blissfully given the chance for a different generation to celebrate it.

The unabashed bravado of the edgy piano arrangement throughout the song evokes an irresistible energy and brightness that promotes instant happiness as if being cast under a bewitching spell… the perfect balance of danger and charm….it draws a restless romanticism to a close and complex piano part with lyrics that explore what happens when the lines dividing romantics and cynics become blurred.

Randy Edelman is responsible for writing an impressive catalog of super-pop hits including “A Weekend in New England” recorded by Barry Manilow, “Isn’t it a Shame” recorded by Patti LaBelle and “My Place” recorded by hip- hop sensation Nelly, just to mention a few. Aside from that Randy is known globally for his monstrous collection of motion picture soundtracks including “My Cousin Vinny”, “Last of the Mohicans”, Ghostbusters ll”, “Dragonheart”, and hundreds more.

In an unprecedented adventure by someone of this composer’s musical stature Randy has created a high spirited “Poptry” genre with “Pretty Girls.” Some will find themselves line dancing at a country bar while others will be singing his words back to the DJ and the radio with strength and conviction. In either case the song transports us to a different dimension into an abstract world of beauty and danger…… “Pretty Girls” will also appear in the new motion picture thriller “The Beast Inside”, (soundtrack magnificently written by the same).
