The Isley Brothers Announce New Album ‘Make Me Say It Again, Girl’

R&B

The Isley Brothers have announced their new album, Make Me Say It Again, Girl, will release on Sept. 23.

The album is titled after their “Make Me Say It Again, Girl” remake featuring Beyoncé.

The original song appeared on the legendary R&B group’s platinum-selling album, The Heat Is On, which released in 1975. The album peaked at No. 1 on Billboard’s Black Albums chart and Billboard’s Pop Albums chart.

Their Beyoncé-assisted remake recently reached the top 10 on Billboard’s Adult R&B Airplay chart.

It became The Isley Brother’s first top 10 hit in over 20 years. Their Grammy-nominated single “Contagious” peaked at No. 1 on the chart and remained atop for two weeks in September 2001.

Make Me Say It Again, Girl will also include the lead single “Friends and Family” featuring rapper Snoop Dogg.

The song was released immediately after The Isley Brothers’ Verzuz celebration with Earth, Wind & Fire in April 2021. They paired their release with a video directed by Erik White, which featured cameos from Alex Isley (Ernie Isley’s daughter), Syleena Johnson, LisaRaye McCoy, Vivica A. Fox and more.

According to Variety, Alicia Keys, Drake, Trey Songz and Rick Ross are expected to appear on Make Me Say It Again Girl.

Of their upcoming album, Ronald Isley told Billboard, “For me, this new album is almost like the beginning. I’m so happy about it. But I also want people to hear it and decide. I remember when I couldn’t wait for people to hear ‘That Lady’ when we were mixing it. That’s how excited we all were. You just want all of your fans to hear it too.”

He also shared a sweet story about everyone’s reaction to their remake. “Beyoncé’s mother texted us to say how much they were crying over the record when Beyoncé played it for them,” he said before admitting that he also shed some tears, along with his wife Kandy and her sister.

“Me, Kandy and her sister were together when we first heard it and they were crying. Then Ernie and his wife came over and there was crying again. We hadn’t done any crying over a record in years [laughs],” he said.

Make Me Say It Again, Girl will follow The Isley Brothers’ 2017’s album, Power of Peace, a joint project with Carlos Santana.

On Sept. 30, The Isley Brothers will host an album release party at The INKwell 42 D’or Supper Club in New York City.
