Hanoi Rocks’ Andy McCoy Says Vince Neil Never Apologized for the Car Crash that Killed Their Drummer: “Every Time I See Him, He Runs Away”

Metal

In December of 1984, Mötley Crüe frontman Vince Neil was drunk-driving a car containing Hanoi Rocks drummer Nicholas “Razzle” Dingley when he lost control and collided with an oncoming vehicle. Neil, who had a blood alcohol level of 0.17% (for the record, the legal limit in the U.S. is 0.08%), survived the crash, but Dingley was killed, and the two people in the other vehicle were seriously injured, suffering brain damage. Now, Hanoi Rocks guitarist Andy McCoy has said that Neil has never apologized to him for the crash.

Speaking to Artists On Record Starring ADIKA Live! (as transcribed by Blabbermouth), McCoy remembers the moment he found out that Razzle had died. He then goes on to say that Vince Neil has perpetually evaded him since the accident:

“I’ve never even got as much as an apology from that motherfucker. You know who I’m talking about. I’m not gonna give any names. Why would I give him fame? Fuck him! Every time I see him, he runs away. Because he knows what I’d do. But that’s our business.

“I’m from the inner city. [Vince is] from fucking suburban California. You can never compare us, what we know. You read me, bro.”

McCoy also has plenty to say about Nikki Sixx, and the fact that Mötley Crüe called their boxed set Music to Crash Your Car To. He then goes on to note that people often forget about the passengers in the other car involved in Neil’s accident:

“People forget about those two. I remember. I never forget. People tend to forget about them. And that was horrible. It was just plainly wrong. Fifty yards to the liquor store. I thought they’d walk. But no, this motherfucker — I don’t care to mention his name; you know who he is — had to show off his second-hand fucking ugly Pantera, which ain’t even a nice car to me.”
