R&B

Mary J. Blige will perform a one-night-only concert hosted by Apple Music Live on July 27 at 7 p.m. PT.

The performance will take place at New York City’s United Palace and will be available to stream exclusively on Apple Music.

“The last year of my career in particular has been an exciting ride,” says Blige. “From continuing to act, to recording and releasing my 15th studio album, growing and expanding different businesses like Sun Goddess and Sister Love Jewelry, to performing at the Super Bowl, launching my Strength of a Woman Festival and Summit and now getting ready to go back on tour, it feels amazing to take this opportunity to celebrate, reflect and have an intimate night with my fans through this platform Apple Music is providing me.”

Fans in the New York area can register for a chance to watch Blige’s show in person. The live taping will take place on July 13.

Apple Music will celebrate the 30th anniversary of Blige’s debut album, What’s the 411?, on July 27. Its Apple Music Hits station will feature a day of exclusive programming, music and interviews highlighting key moments from Blige’s iconic catalog and decade-spanning career.

Launched this spring, Apple Music Live has previously featured exclusive live-streamed performances from global chart-toppers Harry Styles and Lil Durk,

This has been a very eventful year for Blige, to say the least. In February, she performed at the Super Bowl LVI halftime show. Two days ahead of her performance, she released her 15th album, Good Morning Gorgeous

In May, Blige received the Icon Award at the 2022 Billboard Music Awards and the Legend Award at the 2022 Clio Music Awards.

During her acceptance speech at the Billboard Music Awards, Blige defined what it means to be an icon. “What an icon means to me is overcoming obstacles to accomplish the unthinkable and be wildly admired for having influence over a multitude of people, and that is what I’ve always represented,” she said.

In the same month, she was named one of the world’s most influential people of 2022 by TIME. She performed her latest hit “Good Morning Gorgeous” and 2001’s “Family Affair” at the TIME100 Gala.

Most recently, Blige performed at the 2022 BET Awards during Sean “Diddy” Combs’ tribute for his Lifetime Achievement Award.

Blige has more performances lined up this year. In the fall, she will kick off her Good Morning Gorgeous Tour with special guests Ella Mai and Queen Naija.
